Life is a Highway

Everyone is so concerned about what others may think of them that they are forgetting to live their lives to the fullest. People are so consumed with societal trends and norms that they are afraid they will be shunned by society for being their authentic self.  At the end of the day people need to take the time and realize that everyone is on their own journey and that everyone has a purpose in life. Some may take longer to realize their own power; some may choose to be honest; some may choose to conform to societies trends. That being said, people need to realize it is okay to be different; taking the time to find your true self and live your life to the fullest is way more important than blending in with the majority.

  1. Great post Ioana. Developing the strength to be myself is something that took a very long time to do and something I am trying to teach my daughter now. I did not grow up in the time of digital media so I really want to help my daughter navigate these waters. I dance when I want to dance and don't care who watches and I think at times this surprises her, but I want her to see that I am being myself and that is ok.

  2. Hi Ioana!

I really enjoyed reading your post and I believe it is a very powerful topic. It is really hard for people to share their authentic selves because the world we live in is a very influential pessimistic world. I believe that we need to stop caring what others think and be who we want to be, be unique because there is nothing great in being the same. I completely agree that people need to realize that it's okay to be different as people need to show themselves publicly to truly love themselves. It doesn't make sense to hide and end up hurting or hating yourself because you're different.

  3. I agree that people should worry less about what other people may think of them and more about what they think of themselves. The easiest way to have other people think better of you is to think well of yourself and be confident. That being said, there will always be people out there who are relentless in their distaste for anything different, meaning all we can do is ignore them.

  4. Good start on this blog, Ioana! Each sentence here could be used to form another post that delves into specifics. I wonder if a personal perspective on these ideas might ground them even more. Specificity and narrative can be powerful in such blogs. Another direction might be analysis of others' work on this topic and thinking through influence. Many directions to potentially travel!

  5. Hello Ioana,

This is a very powerful post, as I believe it is a message that is often lost along the way as we grow. I believe that societal norms are even more powerful nowadays due to having a stronger presence in our everyday lives, such as in social media. I agree with you that it is extremely important to focus on being yourself and doing what makes you happy, rather than what others will deem as “cool” or “popular”. This is the key to living a happy, healthy and balanced life, but of course it is not always easy to not feel pressured to conform.

I love motivational speakers, and Jay Shetty is an amazing speaker who discusses how everyone moves at their own time and pace (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6S9E0MVteEc). Let me know what you think of it!
